Post 4 New Osprey's: 2 New Vanguard & 2 Combat Aircreaft

New Vanguard 152, T-80 Standard Tank: The Soviet Army's Last Armored Champion
Author: Steven J. Zaloga, Illustrated by: Tony Bryan
Osprey Publishing | February 17, 2009 | ISBN-10: 184603244X | 48 Pages | PDF | 22.8 MB

Osprey Publishing Description:
The Soviet T-80 Standard Tank was the last tank fielded before the Soviet collapse, and the most controversial. Despite having the most sophisticated fire controls and multi-layer armor ever fielded on a Soviet tank, its turbine power plant (rather than a conventional diesel) remained a source of considerable trouble throughout its career. Steven J Zaloga charts the little-known history of the T-80, covering the initial construction, through the development to the subsequent variants, the T-84 and Russia’s enigmatic “Black Eagle Tank.” Accompanying detailed cut-away artwork illustrates the unusual design features that made the T-80 so controversial.

Reviews:
"The book is full of photos and illustrations, mostly in color, that again, will make this a much-used modeler’s book... If your interest includes modern Soviet/Russian armor, I highly recommend this book to you... This volume gives you a developmental history that is easy to read and understand, plus the many photos and illustrations chosen with the modeler in mind, make this a very valuable asset to every modelers library."
Howie Belkin, IPMS/USA

"Steven J Zaloga's T-80 Standard Tank: The Soviet Army's Last Armored Champion offers a narrowed focus for speciality military collections focusing on military equipment. The T-80 was the last tank fielded before the collapse of the Soviet Union - and the most controversial. Its history is revealed with photos and discussion."
California Bookwatch (April 2009)

New Vanguard 159, Staghound Armored Car 1942-62
Author: Steven J. Zaloga, Illustrated by: Peter Bull
Osprey Publishing | August 18, 2009 | ISBN-10: 1846033926 | 48 Pages | PDF | 21.2 MB

Osprey Publishing Description:
The Staghound was a unique World War II armored vehicle - designed and manufactured in the US, but intended solely for the British army. Since its combat debut in Italy in 1943 until the end of the war it had performed particularly valuable service in a reconnaissance role where its speed and armor ensured that it was able to extricate itself from trouble as required without additional support. This book examines the development of this category of armored cars and offers a detailed analysis of the extensive combat use of the Staghound in British service as well as in the service of other Allied countries including Canada, New Zealand and Poland.

Review:

"Author Steven J. Zaloga is widely acknowledged as one of the foremost authorities on armor and has put his expertise to use in this book. Each type of vehicle as well as its development history is well covered and his writing style makes for interesting reading. When you add to it the quality period photographs and the superb artwork of illustrator Peter Bull, you have an excellent quick reference on a most intriguing subject. It is a book that I can most highly recommend to the enthusiast and modeler alike."

Combat Aircraft 75, Junkers Ju 88 Kampfgeschwader in North Africa and the Mediterranean
Author & Illustrator: John Weal
Osprey Publishing | October 20, 2009 | ISBN-10: 1846033187 | 48 Pages | PDF | 35.3 MB

Osprey Publishing Description:
This volume follows the Luftwaffe’s twin-engined ‘Wunderbomber’ southwards to describe its deployment in North Africa and the Mediterranean theatre of war. Early 1941 saw the first sporadic air raids on Malta, followed by the campaign in the Balkans which resulted in the conquests of Yugoslavia, Greece and Crete. After supporting land operations in North Africa during the latter half of 1941, the Ju 88s resumed their assault on Malta. Bringing the story to life are personal accounts of the more famous actions – the bombing of shipping off the coast of Greece and the sinking of three Royal Navy destroyers south of Crete, all illustrated with rare photographs and full-colour profiles.

Combat Aircraft 76, Lockheed SR-71 Operations in the Far East
Author: Paul F. Crickmore, Illustrated by: Chris Davey
Osprey Publishing | November 18, 2008 | ISBN-10: 1846033195 | 48 Pages | PDF | 41.5 MB

Osprey Publishing Description:
Even before the first operational flight of the U-2 spy plane, aircraft designers began work on the type’s replacement. The result was the SR-71. First deployed on March 9, 1968, this tri-sonic ‘hotrod’ flew its first operational sortie over North Vietnam just 12 days later. Thereafter, the SR-71 roamed freely, capturing photographic, radar and electronic intelligence. This book examines the impact this aircraft had, not only on North Vietnam but during the Cold War as a whole, gathering information about the Soviet nuclear submarine fleet based in Vladivostok as well as the port’s defenses, monitoring the actions of North Korea and flying four 11-hour, non-stop sorties into the Persian Gulf during the Iran-Iraq War in the late 1980s.

Review:

"What makes this particular book such a great read is the depth of information provided on operations of the time. The accounts of the pilots and others involved adds much to making this such a fascinating book. Add to that the great choice of photos and several pages of well drawn profiles and you have a book that I know you will enjoy."
Scott Van Aken, modelingmadness.com (December 2008)

@mappo

Here is a blurb from the "How to post in E-Books" tutorial that may help you out

Quote:
Download the cover art to your computer. Then upload it to the image hosting site. After it is uploaded, you can delete the image from your computer.
Go to your image on the image hosting site and highlight the "Direct Image" link. Copy and paste it into your post. If you have done this correctly, do not code this link. You want the picture to show up in your post, not the link. Do not link cover art directly from any other site besides your image host site.
You can use any photo hosting site you wish, I use photobucket, it's pretty good. Hope this helps.

You may recall some of you that I posted an excel sheet a few weeks ago to help track and trace what people had in their own private collections.

I've been doing a lot of work on it and think I am satisfied that the end result will help people with a large volume of Osprey Books or merely want to start auditing what they have as there is nothing worse than a duplicate download of the same issue....I've done it enough myself

Anyway the sheet covers the following series

Quote:
Series Title Total In Series Total Owned Balance Left
Aircraft Of The Aces 90 39 -51.00
Aviation Elite 34 28 -6.00
Aircam/Airwar 24 24 0.00
Battle Orders 38 19 -19.00
Campaign 216 97 -119.00
Combat Aircraft 81 48 -33.00
Duel 24 10 -14.00
Elite 177 76 -101.00
Essential Histories 71 40 -31.00
Essential Histories Special 7 4 -3.00
Fortress 90 46 -44.00
Men At Arms 457 121 -336.00
Modelling Books 44 11 -33.00
Modelling Manuals 20 9 -11.00
Modelling Masterclass 16 7 -9.00
New Vanguard 163 106 -57.00
Raid 6 0 -6.00
Vanguard 46 36 -10.00
Warrior 142 67 -75.00
Totals 1746 788 -958.00
0.451317297 45%
All you do is go to the sheet that has the issue you have, key in the number 1 by it. I have set up formulas on the sheet so it will calculate what you have and what you need to get(if you choose to know)

For the purposes of this post I've used my own sheet, just delete all my entries and include your own. If possible try not to delete the totals at the end of each sheet as it screws up the summary page which is a handy little tool to get a snapshot of where you stand so to speak.

I hope its of use to some of you and thanks again for all the posts.

Naturally if there are any issues of Osprey I have that you need let me know and i'll upload it.

but was it really given the same number - #100?

I'm not sure about this but all references to American Civil War Vivandieres point to it as #100 in the Elite series, with 2004 as the date of publication (or else give it no number at all). Osprey may have discontinued this title due to low sales (There is also the possibility that it was never released) and published World War II Axis Booby Traps and Sabotage Tactics under the same number to avoid a gap in the series. The best way to know for sure would be to ask Osprey Publishing directly.
Here follow a few links referring to this title. If you ever find additional information about it, please let us know.

Strange it may be but not unusual for Osprey. If taking a look at the two lists of missing links posted page 14, one will find many grayed titles, meaning they were announced for future publication but never released. There are also grayed numbers followed by the mention Unpublished meaning Osprey often leaves gaps in the series, gaps to be filled years later in the best case.

Cheers,

Rip0ff
